A Lighthouse Of Unconditional Love

Dr. Willie Barnes

Dr. Willie R. Barnes was one of seven children born and raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.  He came to know the Lord at the age of eleven and was baptized at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church.  He was active in church throughout his teens through the youth group and also as a Junior Deacon. He graduated from A.M. & N. College (now University of Ark. Pine Bluff) with a bachelor's degree in biology.  Barnes then taught high school science for one year before spending thirteen years as a Fisheries Biologist with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  One of many moves brought him to central Pennsylvania in the mid 1970’s where he and his wife became part of a campus/house-to-house ministry that later became Unity Church of Jesus Christ.  Elder Barnes moved to Leetown, West Virginia to take a management position but never forgot this ministry and visited often during his fourteen-year stay in West Virginia.  While in the position of Hatchery Manager in Leetown, WV he was called by the Lord and ordained Deacon at the Dudley Baptist Church in Martinsburg, WV where he served for about five years, and later, while attending dental school at West Virginia University School of Dentistry, he served as deacon at Mt. Herman Baptist Church.

After his graduation from dental school in 1989, the Lord opened the doors so that the Barnes family could move back to central Pennsylvania where he could begin his dental career and be reunited with Unity Church of Jesus Christ.  After a short period of working in the church, he was ordained as an elder.  While at Unity he taught teenage Sunday school, served as Youth of Unity leader along with his wife, and served as Elder with oversight of all youth activity, hospitality, craft ministry, and deacons.  He married his college sweetheart, Rebecca M. Brunson and through this union years later two children were born, son Kori and daughter Kaci.
